  • The Friday Night Project was first aired by Channel 4 in February 2005. It was a topical weekly comedy entertainment show produced by Princess Productions.
  • The original pilot and series one was hosted by Jimmy Carr, Sharon Horgan, Lucy Montgomery and Rob Rouse.
  • From series two onwards the show was presented by Alan Carr and Justin Lee Collins.  
  • The show moved to Sunday nights for its seventh series in 2008.
  • Each week the regular hosts are joined by a celebrity guest host. These guests provide an opening monologue, are interviewed by Alan and Justin and take questions from the studio audience. They also take part in comedy sketches, hidden camera stunts and a game show where someone from the audience is selected to win prizes.
  • The shows were recorded at The London Studios on the Thursday before transmission. 

KEY FORMAT POINTS: Each show is presented by a celebrity guest host - who takes the place on the set as the main presenter - with Alan & Justin sitting on the traditional guest seats. There is also a star musical guest who also acts as the "house band" for the week.

  • Opening MonologueThe guest host does a topical monologue with jokes about the funnier side of the weeks news. The monologue ends with the host introducing  the week's musical guest
  • Bonding FilmA short comedy film where Alan and Justin visit the guest host earlier in the week.
  • Dream Sequence Sketch - Justin, Alan and the guest host participate in a comedy sketch of some sort, usually related to something that the guest host is famous for.
  • The Friday/Sunday Night NewsA topical spoof news-cast with Alan and the guest host playing newsreaders
  • Who Knows The Most About The Guest Host?In this section, the guest host will runs a quiz where all of the questions are about them. 
  • Watch Out, (Guest Host)'s AboutIn these films the guest hosts play a prank on an unsuspecting member of the public.
  • My Question TimeMembers of the audience are invited to ask the guest host questions.
  • Live musical performance - each show ends with performance from the music guest.
